The Ari Block ז”ל Court
A rendering of the new court:
Ari Dovid Block was born on September 22nd, 1982. Growing up he went to Beth Joseph Congregation and attended the Phoenix Hebrew Academy. After graduating PHA, Ari went to Central High School, graduating with honors. Ari enrolled at Yeshiva University in New York, later transferring to Sh’or Yoshuv where he was studying for his rabbinical ordination. In 2006, Ari was married to Faige Ludmir and had a son, Avraham Yeshaya. Ari passed away suddenly on May 13, 2007 from a heart condition. He was 24 years old.
We would like to dedicate a beautiful new basketball court at Phoenix Hebrew Academy to his memory. Ari loved basketball. You could usually find him shooting left-handed jumpers in his driveway growing up. He played basketball, not only for the fun, but for the connection he made with everyone on the court. Ari and his family have been a very big part of the PHA’s basketball history. Ari’s father, Dr. Robert Block, was the first head coach of the basketball team. Ari was the best player on the team for many years. We hope that this new court will serve as inspiration for our students to play like Ari did; with strength, courage, and a winning spirit.
The new basketball court will be made by Sports Court. It is the safest outdoor court in the world, and features the lowest skin abrasion of any outdoor court surface and is made of the highest quality materials and UV stabilizers to protect the court. It is made to help shock absorption and reduce joint strain and fatigue to help the players play longer and more safely than ever. The court will feature both basketball and volleyball lines.
