Mrs. Chani Adler – First Grade Judaic Studies
Mrs. Adler is a veteran teacher of more than ten years. She holds a Bachelors degree in
psychology and a Masters Degree in Special Education from the College of Staten Island,
and she is well sought after for teaching fundamental, life-long reading skills.
Rabbi Yisroel Weiner – Third & Fifth Grade Judaic Studies, Masmidim Rebbe.
Rabbi Yisrael Weiner is a veteran teacher in his third year at PHA, where he came from
the Rambam School in Baltimore, Maryland. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, he is
a student of Yeshivas Ner Israel and holds Semicha (ordination) from Rabbi Ephraim
Greenblatt, Shlita. He holds a Teaching Certification from the Ner Israel Teacher’s
Machon, and he holds a Masters Degree from Loyola University in Education.
Additionally, he is a graduate of the Jewish Educational Leaders Institute. Above all,
Rabbi Weiner is a beloved Rebbe, who is “present” at all times for his students. He is
joined by his wife Sarah, a native of Memphis, Tennessee and an Occupational Therapist,
and their four children as an important part of our community.
Mrs. Diana Nashban – Second & Fourth Grade General Studies
Mrs. Nashban has taught in the Hebrew Academy for over 20 years, and she serves as the Student Council Advisor. Mrs. Nashban holds two Masters Degrees, both in General
Education and in Special Education.
Rabbi Avichai Pepper – Fourth Grade and Sixth Grade Judaic Studies
Rabbi Pepper is a graduate of the New England Rabbinical College, where he received
his Teaching Degree. Rabbi Pepper is a veteran of the Seattle Hebrew Academy, where
he taught and served as the school’s Student Activities Coordinator. He also served as the
Director of Synagogue Youth Programs for one of Seattle’s largest congregations, Bikur
Cholim Congregation. In his spare time, Rabbi Pepper held the position of Assistant
Director of Camp Dora Golding, a summer camp that serves over 1,000 campers each
Mrs. Joyce Cone, Middle School Math
Mrs. Cone is our Pre-Algebra and Algebra I teacher, who holds 30 years of experience
teaching at Phoenix Country Day School. At PCDS, she anchored the Middle School
math program. She coached the Math Counts Team for 25 years, bringing home 24
regional and 17 State Team trophies, and sent 6 students to the National Finals. Mrs.
Cone loves teaching math, as well as thinking skills, and she was loved by the Phoenix
Country Day community for her passion for teaching and her humorous personality.
Mrs. Cone holds both her Bachelor’s and Masters Degrees from ASU, as well as her
Mrs. Alanna Pepper, Kindergarten and Second Grade Girls Judaic Studies
Mrs. Pepper is a veteran Morah, having taught in Houston, Texas and Seattle,
Washington. Mrs. Pepper holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Teacher’s
Certificate from Moreshet Teacher’s Seminary in Jerusalem, Israel.
Mrs. Alyssa Zupnick, Kindergarten and Fifth Grade, General Studies
Mrs. Zupnick is a beloved teacher, who returns this past year from a year spent teaching
underprivileged children in Israel. She is a veteran of both PHA and the Tucson Hebrew
Academy. She graduated from the University of Arizona with her Bachelors in
Elementary Education as well as her Arizona Certification.
Mrs. Norma Walker, First and Third Grade, General Studies
Mrs. Walker is a veteran teacher of the Mesa, Arizona public school system, where she
taught in the primary grades. Ms. Walker is known for her creativity and love of teaching.
She holds her Degree in Education from Minot State University, as well as her Arizona
Mrs. Sheila Shaffer, Middle School Language Arts and Sixth Grade
Mrs. Sheila Shaffer is a veteran Language Arts teacher from the Washington School
District. She comes to PHA with over two decades of experience as a teacher and
administrator. Mrs. Shaffer brings a passion for literature and writing to the classroom.
She holds her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Arizona State University.
Rabbi Ari Bleeman, Fifth Grade Boys and Middle School Boys
Rabbi Bleeman, a beloved PHA teacher, is a graduate of the Ner L’Elef Teachers
Program in Jerusalem, Israel, as well as the Machon Aluf Bina Teacher Training
Program, under the leadership of the Master Mechanech, Rabbi Sholom Storch.
He has served as a teaching intern at Eitz Chaim Day School in Toronto, where he lead
classes and served as a tutor and mentor for Middle School boys. He also served as a
Student Activity Coordinator at the Eitz Chaim Yeshiva in Moscow, as well as Yeshiva
Ohalai Yaakov, where he was responsible for after-school learning and activities for 250
boys. Rabbi Bleeman is joined by his wife Bracha, daughter Racheli and son, Yirmiya.
Mrs. Sophie Plapp, Ivrit Grades 5-8
Mrs. Plapp leads the Ivrit program for grades 5-8 that will incorporate conversational
Hebrew into their curriculum, with an aim at enhancing and broadening their skills in
both Lashon Hakodesh (Classical Hebrew) and the spoken language. Mrs. Plapp holds
her degree from Tel Aviv University and has well over a decade of teaching experience at
the Jess Schwartz School as well as the Bureau of Jewish Education and Hebrew High.
Mrs. Callie Ward, Middle School Social Studies
Mrs. Ward is a veteran private school teacher from Tucson, Arizona, bringing over ten
years of educational experience. She holds her degrees from University of Arizona and
University of Phoenix. Notably, Mrs. Ward was awarded a “Fullbright-Hayes” Memorial
Scholarship for study abroad.
Mrs. Lolly Moskowitz will be teaching Hashkafah and Yahadut to our Middle School
Girls. Mrs. Moskowitz, a veteran Morah, is a beloved Middle School teacher who
inspires our students daily.
Mrs. Rachel Levy, Middle School Girls Judaic Studies
Mrs. Levy, a Phoenix native, is a Morah and Director of Student Activities at Shearim
High School. She is a graduate if Michlalah Seminary and she holds her Bachelors
Degree from Maalot Yerushalayim.
Mrs. Sara Stiffelman, Fifth Grade General Studies
Mrs. Stiffelman has over 20 years of teaching experience in the Pendergast District,
where she taught both Elementary and Middle School, led local math competitions and
was awarded the Silver Apple Award for Teaching Excellence. She holds her Bachelors
Degree in Education from Washington University in St. Louis as well as Post-
Baccalaureate work at Arizona State University.
